The mission of the Zawadisha Fund is to empower, entrust, and expand opportunities for women. Zawadisha is Swahili for “to give a gift” and we believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give women is a “hand-up” in fighting poverty and social norms that limit their full participation in society.
Our person-to-person approach to micro-lending delivers high impact through innovation. As a small, yet growing organization, we have a history and relationships with our loan recipients and partners that help guide us. We are flexible, able to respond to lessons from the field, granting us an efficacy in our work to provide a range of services that truly impact the lives of the women.
Zawadisha does more than lend--we address the issues that impact income and quality of life through savings, education, and preventative health care measures. Our intelligent micro-lending model translates into serious change for the women we work with.
After our first two rounds of lending, 100 percent of women surveyed stated there was an increased level of equality in their homes and 100 percent of our loan recipients have been making savings deposits in addition to each loan payment.
